How do I apply for a Japan visa?
- 1
Confirm your visa category and download the checklist
For a holiday trip, that is the Sight-Seeing category. Download the application form and document checklist from the Embassy of Japan's Visa page before you visit VFS Global.
- 2
Gather your documents
Passport, photo, airline booking slip, hotel booking, visit schedule and financial proof — a bank statement if you are self-funding, or guarantor documents if someone in Japan is paying.
- 3
Submit at VFS Global, Gulshan-2
Attend in person at the Japan Visa Application Centre, Delta Life Tower, Gulshan-2, Dhaka — the Embassy no longer accepts direct submissions. Pay VFS Global's service charge in cash; the Japan visa fee itself is free.
- 4
Wait for processing
The Embassy states 7 working days as standard from complete submission to earliest issuance; VFS's own one-pager says about 5. Plan for the longer figure, especially if your documents may need extra review.

Collect your passport
Pick it up from VFS Global, Gulshan-2, or use its optional paid courier service.

What else do people ask about the Japan visa?
No. Since 3 November 2024, every application, including the tourist Sight-Seeing visa, goes through VFS Global's Japan Visa Application Centre in Gulshan-2, Dhaka. The Embassy counter itself no longer accepts applications.
For Bangladeshi applicants, the route is the Dhaka visa centre, not an online eVISA. Japan's eVISA system is open to a limited list of countries, which we check for you when you enquire, since the eligibility list can change.
The visa fee itself is free. VFS Global's service charge is BDT 2,090, non-refundable and payable in cash at the Dhaka centre — this is the only amount you actually pay to apply.
No. The Embassy asks for a round-trip airline booking slip showing flight numbers, dates and route — a reservation is enough. You do not need to purchase the ticket before your visa is approved.
The Embassy states 7 working days as standard, from complete submission at VFS Global to earliest issuance. VFS's own Bangladesh one-pager says about 5. The two official figures do not fully agree — plan around the longer one, and apply well ahead if your file may need extra review.
Not necessarily. Self-funded applicants can qualify with their own 6-month bank statement and, where relevant, tax documents. A guarantor's documents are an alternative route for guarantor-funded trips, not a requirement for everyone.
No. Only the embassy, high commission or immigration authority decides whether a visa is granted, so no agency can honestly guarantee it. What we do is make sure your application is complete, consistent and matches the official checklist, which removes the most common reasons for refusal. Be wary of anyone who promises a guaranteed visa for an extra payment.
Yes. Send us the refusal letter and the documents you submitted. We look at the reason the embassy gave, such as weak financial proof, an unclear travel purpose or missing papers, and fix that before you apply again. Reapplying with the same file usually brings the same result. Tell the embassy about the earlier refusal whenever the form asks: hiding it can lead to a longer ban.
Embassy requirements can change at any time. Contact us to confirm the latest checklist before you apply.
