How do I apply for a Schengen (Europe) visa?
- 1
Pick the right embassy
Apply to the country where you'll stay longest, or where you enter first if stays are equal. Check who handles that country in Dhaka: for example, Sweden also handles Finland, Latvia and Slovenia; Denmark handles Norway; the Netherlands handles Poland. Belgium and Lithuania need an application in New Delhi.
- 2
Book an appointment yourself
Book on the official VFS Global or BLS website. Germany releases slots about once a month; slots are free, and the German embassy warns that brokers can't get appointments for you.
- 3
Prepare the file
Gather the documents in English (or the embassy's language, such as Spanish for Spain) on A4, with legalisation and translations where required.
- 4
Submit and give fingerprints
Attend the centre in person, pay the visa fee and service charge, and give fingerprints unless you gave them in the last 59 months.
- 5
Wait for the decision
Usually about 15 calendar days after the file reaches the embassy, up to 45. At the border, the Entry/Exit System records your fingerprints and photo.
Where do I apply in Dhaka?
VFS Global (Sweden, Denmark and the countries they represent)
Borak Mehnur, Level 7, 51/B Kemal Ataturk Avenue, Banani, Dhaka 1213
By appointment only. Sweden says to allow up to 21 days from application to passport return. Other countries use different VFS offices or BLS (Spain): check the embassy's own page.
Why are Schengen (Europe) visa applications refused?
Purpose or conditions of the stay not justified
What helps: Give a day-by-day itinerary with hotel bookings that match your leave dates and budget.
Not enough money shown for the trip and the return
What helps: Show steady income, tax returns and a statement history, not a recent lump-sum deposit.
Doubts that you'll leave before the visa expires
What helps: Prove ties at home: a job with approved leave, a business, family and property.
False or unreliable documents
What helps: Embassies verify documents in Bangladesh. One false paper can lead to refusal and an entry ban.
No valid travel medical insurance
What helps: Buy EUR 30,000 cover valid in all Schengen countries for every day of the trip.
What else do people ask about the Schengen (Europe) visa?
The country where you'll spend the most nights, or where you enter first if the stays are equal. In Dhaka, most countries use VFS Global and Spain uses BLS, and some countries are handled by another embassy. Belgian and Lithuanian visas must be applied for in New Delhi, which needs an Indian visa.
EUR 90 for adults and EUR 45 for children aged 6 to under 12; children under 6 pay nothing. Embassies charge it in taka: Spain's is BDT 12,793 through BLS. The visa centre adds a service charge, such as EUR 19.13 at VFS for Germany or BDT 2,402 at BLS for Spain. Fees aren't refunded if the visa is refused.
European Commission figures show 54.9% of Bangladeshi applications were refused in 2024. The standard refusal grounds are an unjustified purpose, too little money, doubts you'll return, unreliable documents and missing insurance. A consistent file with tax returns, a steady statement, approved leave and a real itinerary answers most of them. You can appeal under the refusing country's law.
You can apply up to 6 months before travel and no later than 15 days before. From Dhaka, start 2–3 months ahead: appointments are limited (Germany releases slots about once a month), decisions take about 15 calendar days and can take up to 45, and document verification adds time.
No. Appointments are booked on the official VFS Global or BLS websites and are free. The German embassy says brokers cannot secure appointments, and BLS warns about fake callers asking for fees. What an agency can do is prepare a strong, consistent file so the appointment you get counts.
Travel medical insurance with at least EUR 30,000 of cover, including emergency treatment and repatriation, valid in every Schengen country for each day of your trip. Buy it from an insurer the embassy accepts and bring the policy with the application.
No. Only the embassy, high commission or immigration authority decides whether a visa is granted, so no agency can honestly guarantee it. What we do is make sure your application is complete, consistent and matches the official checklist, which removes the most common reasons for refusal. Be wary of anyone who promises a guaranteed visa for an extra payment.
Yes. Send us the refusal letter and the documents you submitted. We look at the reason the embassy gave, such as weak financial proof, an unclear travel purpose or missing papers, and fix that before you apply again. Reapplying with the same file usually brings the same result. Tell the embassy about the earlier refusal whenever the form asks: hiding it can lead to a longer ban.
